Slide Presentation

The mortality from and major risk factors for cardiovascular disease have decreased in western countries over the past several decades. On the other hand, cardiovascular disease and its risk factors have increased dramatically and become an important public health challenge in Asian populations. This paper compares the mortality data on major cardiovascular disease in western and east populations. It reviews the prevalence and levels of major risk factors for cardiovascular disease among several Asia populations. Based on available data, we predict that cardiovascular disease mortality continues to increase in Asian populations if effective prevention measures are not in place among Asian populations.
